I'll be collaborating them here, if I get any videos from other people, I will make a section for them in the original post, followed by links to all of their videos. You, James, are the only person who has videos for gold medals, so thus far you have the only section.

I posted this in another topic, but but but...!  I have a video request, and a question for James; I'd like to see the level Bones (not Bone Maze, Bones), because that one has me rather stumped.  Also, I'm curious about something.  There never seems to be a pause in the action, like in my game when I have to lift the mouse and pull it back so I don't run off the desk or my mousepad.  ^^;  What's the deal?  Do you use the arrow keys or the mouse?

I tend to use a combination of both, works well for me. I'm not ambidextrous, but my left hand is wasd/arrow keys specialized while my right is mouse specialized. FYI, I'm a rightie.

I use a mouse, on an empty 2.5-ft-by-1.5-ft section of desk, with sensitivity maxed out in both the game preferences and my system preferences; it doesn't hit the edges very often.

As for controlling the goo, I almost always just use the mouse. My mouse speed on my Windows computer is quite high, and I leave the mouse sensitivity in game somewhere in the middle. I think a lot of people move their mouse faster then they actually have to. There is a maximum speed that the goo can reach, and flicking the mouse across the desk won't make him go any faster. Use smaller controlled movement, just fast enough so that the goo gets to his maximum speed.

Yeah.  Incidentally, you can use this fact to reposition the mouse on the table without picking it up: move it sharply when the goo needs to go toward the center of the table, and gently when the goo needs to go away from the center of the table.

Hooray!  Sorry for the late thanks to James, but thank you James for the video!!!  I had to reformat my computer, so I need to start all over and get back to that level to try it out.  =P

And thanks to everyone else!  I chucked my mouse pad and made sure my desk was squeaky clean.  I use a logitech, so it has a nice sensitivity setting right on the mouse, so if I feel like I'm going TOO fast sometimes (when I'm still really small, I have a tendency to miss items), I can turn it down. ^^
Title: Teatime Video
Post by: ThirdParty on January 02, 2011, 10:02:01 PM
I've posted a video of me playing "Teatime" and getting a reasonably good score (15.52 seconds; at the time of this post, the high scores for "Teatime" were ThirdParty 15.46, Bluepenguin 17.39, Mr Kittens 18.10, and Kren 18.74):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw0yenqlP8M (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw0yenqlP8M)

I know nobody has trouble getting a gold medal on "Teatime", but it's always been one of my very favorite levels (just set the bar a little higher than what's required for gold, and it becomes a fun challenge), so I thought I might share.

Edited main post to include "Beware of Deinosuchus".

I feel like I'm the one requesting all the videos.  "Chiisai" - I hate those darn soldiers.  And "Solar System Snack"  Both of those are really tipping me up.  In fact, "Solar System Snack" is my only bronze left! Please upload when you get a chance.
Title: Re: All Gold Medal Videos

jdzane:  You shouldn't need a detailed plan for those two levels.  Just eat whatever edibles are biggest, closest, and/or in most danger of disappearing.  It might help in "Chiisai" to learn the locations of the swords and fish, so that you can find them quickly during the endgame.  In "Solar System Snack", you have to remember to head northwest after eating the moon, since that's where the asteroids are.  But other than that, just use common sense.

Kren:  FYI, the "Beware of Dinosuchus" video is mine, not James's--I finally figured out how to record screen captures using Quicktime Player--so should probably have its own section on your list.  You could also add my "Teatime" video (the link is in my previous post in this thread) to that section.

For the amusement of the forum, I've posted a video of me playing "Hovershield":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otRwwTcav7I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otRwwTcav7I)

Presumably my strategy here is not the correct one for somebody who simply wants to get a gold medal.  I'd be interested in seeing a video of someone else (e.g. James) playing the level, to see what they're doing differently.

That's awesome. I play it the same way - I just don't have the same "shield control" as you do.

I wanted to gold all the normal levels on my personal file before I started my walkthrough. I decided that the hardest level was machinelaser. I want to gold that one before golding the others.

Two questions.

I'm guessing in the hard version you can't be hit by a single laser, right?

Also, I would really like to see a video of golding machinelaser. This is the all gold medal videos thread.

Totally agree! By the way... Are you a dog :( Or a cat :) Person?

I'm allergic to both. I like both though.

Okay.  I spent fifteen minutes playing around with it and then posted a video on YouTube:

Great, thanks ThirdParty! That's probably the hardest level in the game.

And yes Nibbler, one laser will destroy the goo.

Ok, that's absolutely crazy mouse control. Please tell me how you are able to control it so well. I NEED to know this. That control is probably what's stopping me from beating you on cherry blossoms.

I realize now that you are going to want to get under 45 seconds. I'll let you do that. Thanks for the video. I need a lot more practice.

Oh, and James, I AM going to talk about making such a hard level to beat mandatory when playing the main game during that walkthrough. When I was actually playing through, I got through with a time OVER the time limit. The buzzer was already buzzing.

Maybe.  "Hovershield", "All the Way Down Hard", and "Egg Thief" are also contenders.

Hmm.  I use an optical mouse, attached to my computer via a cord.  When I want the goo to move up, I push the mouse forward.  When I want the goo to move right, I slide the mouse right.  Ditto for other directions.  I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Oh, one other thing: "Teatime" is a good level on which to practice precise control.

Good point; I should do that before I forget my strategy.  (Though I guess I'm less likely to forget my strategy now that I've recorded a video of it.)

... Okay, I've brought my scores for "Machinelaser" and "Machinelaser Hard" to both be under 45 seconds.

Teatime requires how many golds?

Also, I know about how to use a mouse. I have a wireless one. What, did you clear off 5 feet of desk to move the mouse? You control it so smoothly.

At the moment I've got about one square foot of desk space.  I have mouse sensitivity set high enough that I can explore the entire level without ever picking up the mouse.

Well, that explains it. I have a small mousepad just. I have to pick up my mouse even with sensitivity at maximum.

Sorry for double post. Also sorry for old topic post, but, I remember when I got that 29 second time on Cherry Blossoms, it was REALLY hard for me. ThirdParty quickly beat it. I think I'm at the limit of my strategy after trying to beat it hundreds of times, and I need a video of how to get 30 seconds easy. (A good run with my strategy gets me 31 seconds. I average 32.) Please?

I don't know how to do it, I think my best time is around 35. Not sure if ThirdParty visits the forums anymore...

Really, I'm down to just looping video game boss music in the background to give motivation.
Title: Re: All Gold Medal Videos
Post by: Nibbler on January 13, 2012, 11:53:36 PM
Sorry for double post, but...the idea actually works. It seems that the happy music distracts me. The petal munching sounds do seem to be necessary. SSBB Tabuu with petal sounds lowers my average from normal music with petal by 1.17 seconds! I'm focusing too much on this...

I played the level with various types of boss music (and TP2's normal music) 3 times for each music. I recorded the times and averaged them. I also compared the times with no music (just petal) and no sound at all.

My averages.

Normal 32.02
No sound at all 31.89
Terraria 31.71 (at first, this was the only music I could think of for some reason)
Zelda OoT 31.42
No music 31.33
SMG Bowser 31.30 (only one of these I don't own)
SSBB Tabuu 30.85

Never actually heard these. Had to YouTube them.

Terraria I've played for about 5 minutes, OoT I got halfway through then I got tired, I only own SMG2 and not the original, and I've only done the first 3 stages of SSBB SE.

Also, even if the music is good, don't overlap TP2 music on it and remove petal sounds.

Tabuu+TP2-Petal 32.11
Tabuu+TP2+Petal 31.39 (Petal sounds make a difference even with this horrible idea.)
Tabuu No Petal No TP2 31.36 (Still .51 seconds higher than wth Petal.)

Any other music I could try? If I can't get the record after a while, I have a few ideas. There's a song I really like in Eve Online, I might try some Katamari, and of course World 1-1 of the original Super Mario Bros. is required. I like Christmas music, so I might turn on Jingle Bells for no reason. If all else fails, torture self with Nyan Cat.

That's pretty impressive if the music can increase your speed by over 3%... I'm guessing anything up-tempo would work best.

Yes, it does seem to give quite a bit of motivation. I don't know why. Maybe my ears just got tired of listening to the TP2 music that much. It is good music though. (I would have been playing last night, but I just got a new game that you can grow in of course, so...)

I will agree with you on 1 video, Fast Eggs Hard. Cow Crossing Hard is just as same as Cow Crossing, you can just check for Cow Crossing, the player(whoever he is) did not touch the cow.

But maybe they should made a video for the level "All The Way Down Hard"
