Title: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: raxo2222 on March 13, 2011, 03:28:24 AM
When this game will be out?

Probably not for a while.
I remember how long it took TP2 to be done.

Yeah, we're not working on that yet, we have have quite a few other projects first. Probably not in 2011.

These project are games? and in TP 3 will GOO eat cities, countries and even continents on Earth??
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

it would be alot more katamari...
but i think james should do more 3d, even if TP3 isn't true 3d, like katamari
like 2.5d, if that makes any sense

Yes, the other projects we're working on are games.

I don't really know what we're going to do for TP3 yet. We're going to stay 2d, but other than that I'm not sure.

Can you tell names of these games?
What kind of games will be?

Only one of the projects is a brand new game... We're not ready to talk about it yet... And we don't a have a name for it yet anyways!  ;)

Should be this year.

Is it going to be a shooter type game? That is the only genre I even slightly dislike.
What genre game is it? Platform, adventure, puzzle...
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on March 22, 2011, 06:26:50 PM
It's not a shooter... It doesn't fit well into an existing genre.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ideas for it:
starts extremely small, smaller than tasty planet 2.
maybe less than a picometer.
the history isn't in a square. real life.
starts like that:
a scientist invents a real injection, with some goos smaller than atoms. so they was unable to eat anyone, because of a electric barrier(edit: it disappear when injected).

1 year later:
scientist: i am protecting my time machine. let's make some good things.
helper: yes. a coffee to help us.
tv: SOME BACTERIUM IS CAUSING A EVIL STARTED EPIDEMY! we will die in less than 3 months. someone will help us? 1 people is infected, so it's now the moment!
scientist-helper: RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

30 minutes later:
first victim of the epidemy: cof cof!
victim: COF COF COF!!!
medic: 106Fº(40Cº) fever. uh oh.
scientist-helper: we can help with our last chance(to cause a even more terrible epidemy?).
scientist: this is a injection with 20 goos that kill yourselves to make them become bigger. so he will eat oxgen atoms until become as big as a bacterium. i made other inventions in the year i made it, so hadn't tested it after the death of bacteriums, so it's unsafe, even being the salvation.
medic: thank you god! safe or unsafe, if he die, it will be less than the full world!
victim: t... th... thank... than... thank you... for it. COF COF!!!!!
helper: here is the injection.
fsssssssssssssssssssst!
victim: OUCH!!!! it was painful.
scientist: in the mark of this injection, we can see the progress.
actual age part 1 started!
he eat each other, you can choose a random one.
after eating each of the 20...
scientist: good, i have the winner.
medic-victim: wow. only 3 minutes! this was fast!
helper: even for me!
scientist: oh, faster than the expected. let's continue seeing.
actual age part 2 started!
he eats small parts of a atom, until eat the center.
so he eats small, medium, and big atoms.
groups, clusters, superclusters.
scientist: he reached 50 nanometers, the hour is close.
victim: oh yeah.
everyone: god helped us.
actual age part 3 started!
atom hyperclusters, until 150 nanometers.
small bacteriums, until the big bacterium of the epidemy.
he eats 4 others. ends at 400 nanometers.
victim: i am better! i can walk! yeah! bye medic. thank you scientist!
scientist: a picnic to comemorate with cake?
helper-medic: yes.
medic: wait until 3 pm. now is 11 am.
yes.
part 4 started!
he eat meat particles and much blood cells, white cells and enormous bacteriums, with 7-8 micrometers(like old ones from 2006).
ex-victim: i am not feeling myself good, weak... i need help... a... ... a...
CAPLOFT!!!!
he fell, and made pain on the goo.
the medic instantly made he get a chance to revive.
the medic seen your blood and white cell number reducing, so called INSTANTLY the scientist and your helper.
he noted that he grows un-stop so...
scientist says very nervous: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE END OF THE UNIVERSE IS LESS THAN A DAY FAR TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
helper...: what? mmmm... wait A SECOND.... YAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! RUN TO THE MOUNTAINS!!!!! HE GROWS NON-STOP!!!!!
medic: the heart of the victim is seconds to stop and...
BUMP!!!!
medic: this became instantaneous... it eaten your heart and... OH! IT'S REAL!!!!! I AM LOST!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
the notice become popular and spread like fire. 3 hours after, every scientist made a small rocket to escape earth, with mouth to grow like the goo. the goo had 1/8 of the size of USA, and became launched into the space, eats asteroids, and a rocket compete with you and each other. they eat even themselves! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
wooot, this is madness.
everyone eaten. the principal scientist with your helper and the medic's spacecraft grew bigger than the earth.
AI and you will compete until you eat it. in the exact moment he make the time machine enter in auto-destruct and will be launched supremely fast. the goo will become faster when he grow. when get as fast as it, you will eat it, and he will AUTO-DESTRUCT inside it, buffs your greatness, he became bigger than the universe. he eaten it and the 10th part of the actual age ended.
:'( bye universe.
:o what the fu..
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
ZAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!
:D :D :D :D :D the goo disappeared!
or not, he is on prehistoric age.
oh no.
so he will go far in 5 eras and will grow in the blank in the future.
he will eat multiple dimensions until...
you know.
let's hope it be fastly sent!

Yeah, I've thought about making the goo start even smaller (eating subatomic particles, then atoms and molecules). It doesn't really fit with the idea that the goo is a cluster of nanobots (because the nanobots would be way bigger than individual molecules), but it could be really neat.

I doubt we're going to do a time travel theme in TP3... but I'm not sure yet.

Goo would be a rogue particle from another universe
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

You must make the game be 3D James. I am going to bug you about this. You can't accurately display subatomic particles in a 2D setting. Make the levels 3D, if only for the subatomic and molecular size levels. Go ahead and go 2D after those levels, if it is too much of a challenge for you ;)
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on March 28, 2011, 05:18:38 PM
You can't accurately display subatomic particles in a 2D setting.

You can do a reasonable approximation in 2d. I guess electrons are supposed to be orbiting the nucleus in 3d (unlike the solar system - where it really is on a 2d plane). However, lots of (most?) atom diagrams are in 2d. Even simple molecule diagrams are often represented in 2d... I don't know, I'm neither a physicist nor a chemist, but seems like a reasonable approximation to me.

Random idea: maybe TP3 could start with an accident (or "success") in the Large Hadron Collider...
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

Randomer idea: When the goo becomes big enough to go into space, the level before that the goo eats all the contries. Just saying.

Go 3d, go 3d, go 3d, go 3d.

and i like that other guy's idea of having 20 goo's. the most we got in TP2 was four at once (one level had two enemy goo's) but having a party level or two (maybe even one at the end of each level, but not necessarily contingent with the story line) with upwards of 20 goos would be really fun ;D
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

Random idea: maybe TP3 could start with an accident (or "success") in the Large Hadron Collider...
Large Hadron Collider, or perhaps the Superconducting Supercollider (which was intended to have 4 times the collision energy of the LHC before it was canceled--maybe it was completed in the TP3 universe?). Anyway, there are two already-existing scenarios for world-eating entities coming from particle colliders--microscopic black holes, and "strangelets" (particles made up of "strange" type quarks--the six quark types are up and down--from which protons and neutrons are made, top and bottom, and strange and charm). Strangelets supposedly will convert any proton or neutron that they touch into another strangelet, and they will clump together into a mass as dense as neutron star matter.

Anyway, so the above establishes it as plausible that a "grey goo" could be created like that, so a particle collider incident could work as an origin for the Goo.

My suggestions for submicroscopic levels:

Level 1: Subatomic Snacking / Nuclear Nibbles
Size scale: 100 attometers to 100 femtometers. (for reference, a proton or neutron is about one femtometer--and 1,000 attometers to a femtometer, 1,000 femtometers to a picometer, 1,000 picometers to a nanometer).
Eat electrons (smallest, marked with an "electric" yellow glow), protons, neutrons, and then progressively larger nuclei (helium, carbon, oxygen, iron, gold, up to uranium). Hazards include neutrinos that shoot through the level in straight lines like bullets--slow enough to dodge but moving faster than the Goo.

Level 2: Atomic Cafe
Size scale: 100 picometers to 1 nanometer (most atoms are 100-500 picometers)
Eat small atoms such as hydrogen and helium, and on upward to bigger ones until you reach Uranium and such.

Level 3: Molecular Munchies
Size Scale: 1 nanometer to 100 nanometers
Eat small molecules such as water and oxygen, then midsize molecules such as ethyl alcohol and glucose, on up to proteins.

Level 4: Cellular Cuisine
Size scale: 10s of nanometers to a few micrometers
You find that the Goo is inside of a eukaryotic cell (whether human, animal, plant, or amoeba is up to James and company). Start by eating RNA and DNA strands, then ribosomes and mitochondria and microtubules and other cell parts until you've eaten the whole cell.

From here it then goes into the usual "eat bacteria" stage that is the smallest stage of TP1-2.

The second thing I was thinking of was that I liked the suggestion earlier of having a couple of levels on Earth above the 1 kilometer scale, a range that was just barely touched upon at the ending of the "Save the Dinosaurs" level in TP2.

Going from the premise that the "lab" in TP3 is a particle collider, when the Goo gets to the 1 kilometer range it eats the entire lab and accelerator ring (the ring is eaten as a bunch of sections making up the full ring that is several kilometers in diameter). And then .  .  .

Level 1: Big as Texas (if the Superconducting Supercollider) / Swiss Treat (if the Large Hadron Collider)
Size Scale: 1 kilometer to 100 kilometers
Eat entire towns, cities, rivers, lakes, forests, and mountains in the area around where the particle collider was.

Level 2: Sweet Land of Liberty (if the SSC) / Continental Breakfast (if the LHC)
Size scale: 100 kilometers to 2 thousand kilometers.
Eat whole map regions. If America, start with Rhode Island, Connecticuit, Prince Edward Island, and the other small northeastern states/provinces, and keep going until you have eaten every part of the USA, Mexico, and Canada, ending with Quebec and Alaska. If Europe, eat the various European nations starting with Liechtenstein and Monaco and growing until you can eat France in a final massive gulp. The map regions would "tear out" from the background as you eat them, sort of like how the "fabric of space" tears when you eat it in TP1-2.

For an ending, TP1 used the "universe begins again" idea and TP2 used the "turtles all the way down" idea. I would like to suggest that TP3 borrow from all those old science fiction stories about finding a universe inside an atom--when the Goo has eaten the entire universe, we find out that the whole universe was in fact a single subatomic particle in a much vaster universe, which itself is a particle in an even vaster one, and on infinitely, allowing the Goo to keep on eating bigger universes forever.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Kren on March 30, 2011, 04:48:17 PM
a side effect i just realized: if the goo ate only some of the protons and neutrons in an atom of, say, iron (the LHC is probably made of iron, if not steel. and is also coated with something else to not interfere with the actual experiments.
but nevermind. say that an atom of some element more complex than hydrogen or helium were being nibbled on by the go. depending on what protons, neutrons and electrics that the goo doesn't eat, the atom may change into a completely different element.
so, maybe the goo wasn't an accident. maybe it was a 'sciencified' version of every true alchemists dream: to turn cheap metals into gold or at least silver. however, seeing as the goo can only eat, and cannot create, the subatomic particles, the scientists would have to "feed" the goo atoms that have an atomic number of at least 80 (since gold has an atomic number of 79, and they are organized by the number of the particles).
but something goes wrong?
duh. the goo's hunger (or goos' if there are more than one) gets the better of it (them) and it (they) (whatever, singular from now on) continues to eat more particles. now the atom(s) can turn into something like neon or phosphorus or sulfur, all highly explosive elements. or, maybe even the radioactive element krypton. then, the lab blows up because the only scientists on duty were the two clowns from the original two games. yes, thanks to them, yet more goo is released. they try to get it all under control to stop a repeat of last time (which can refer to either of the two previous games) but they make things worse (according to character :P) and they make things blow up of course.

Thanks ijuin, interesting ideas. The "strangelet" idea makes sense as a possible origin for the grey goo.

The design of molecular levels would be similar to what you posted. I would have to experiment to figure out the exact sizes to do separate levels and "zoom-outs".

And I like the idea of having universes within universes. I've thought about doing a bonus level/mode that goes on forever...
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

How would you have the measurements be done for an endless level? Would it just go to the largest length in the metric system then go back down to the smallest? (Which would just make you feel like you are repeating the level over and over. It also doesn't show your progress if it was like that. You wouldn't be able to tell. Why not just play the level all the way down repeatedly?) Would you have a count that shows how many times you've gone through to make up for that? (It could be used for high scores.) Maybe you could have special universes every once in a while to make it less repetitive. (Maybe first subtle changes (like on the fifth tenth and twenty-fifth) then crazy later on (one hundred and further goals.))

Or would you have a special system for size?

Also, would it save your progress so you can keep going on later? I know a game where the endless mode saves your progress. It's actually a match 3 game, but...same principle. It saves your score.

Post by: ijuin on March 30, 2011, 11:00:04 PM
The endless level sounds like a good application of the "universes within universes" idea. I agree that if you did that, there would have to be a counter for how many universes you have eaten through (and reset from the teraparsec scale to the attometer scale). Or for the feeling of "OMG this new universe is HUGE" you might use an exponential notation in parsecs--e.g. the humans in the new world would be 10^27 or so parsecs tall (taking a proton as 10^-15 meters equal to a teraparsec sized universe). Since the level is endless, scoring would not be "time to completion" but rather "time to reach the Nth universe".
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

Or maybe lifetime total amount of universes eaten. Also what happens when the exponents get big?

10^99999999999999999......

It wouldn't take too many universes with it's exponential growth.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on March 31, 2011, 12:14:37 AM
Hmmm, I hadn't thought about the display size issue. I would probably put a "universe" counter, and maybe display your size in scientific notation. I have avoided using exponents in the game because a lot of people would be confused or turned off by them, but exponents would be the best way to display your size in a level like that. The SI prefixes (kilo, mega, giga, etc.) only go up so high.

Fortunately the display size wouldn't be an issue. Although you're growing exponentially, the exponent would be growing linearly. So even after you ate 100 universes, the exponent would only be around 5,000 (assuming +50 per universe).

In any case, it's just an idea. Could be a fun bonus level.

(Of course, you have the crazy people going for 1000000 lifetime total or more. So, it could be a problem still but oh well.)

(Of course, then you can go 10^10^10^10 etc...after that...well...use that thing they use to calculate graham's number. No one will ever get there but...)

Why are you only going to electrons anyways? Shouldn't you start at one planck length? Then you can have strings, quarks, etc. Then no complaints can be made about being small ever.

Also, maybe a level creator...that would be really neat. Especially if you could share them on the internet/to your friends.

I don't know, I've never really studied that stuff - is there even an widely accepted visualization for it?

It would be neat. The problem is that making a level editor that is reasonably easy to use would be very time consuming. My current editor is pretty good for myself, but I doubt many other people would put the time in to figure it out (and actually adding *new* entities would be very hard - animations, collision area, AI, etc.).

Ummm...I think I saw some sort of youtube video....it had comparisions using pictures. Sure, it would be an hour of gameplay probably before you were eating atoms..but...want me to give you the link? (The thing he has bigger than the universe is pretty funny.)

How many people work at dingo studios anyways?

(Now the huge paragraph below is about how I found tasty planet.)

(Also as a side note....many years ago, I saw something in the news about the original katamari damacy coming out. Unfortunately, the next day when I went to look for it, I had forgotten the name. (sigh) So I was stuck playing feeding frenzy for many years. I was bored of fish. Eventually, I found Tasty Planet. After playing the first few levels (up to picnic table) available online, I went to many sites downloading a free trial. I remember seeing the typo for the invincible cheat and laughing. I eventually found this site and seeing katamari damacy mentioned, I was really happy. I got katamari forever. I came back here and played tasty planet a bit still. I didn't buy it because I didn't have a credit card. (Still don't. I used a pre-paid.) I saw this and needed to have the sequel. So I bought it. Now, I'm awesome at cherry blossoms but I suck at every other level! It's a great game! I actually probably play it a lot more than katamari actually. It's probably the game I play the most.

Thank you for creating this game!)

(Now, back to trying to beat thirdparty at cherry blossoms again. He got it under 33 seconds. I'll still know if you post anything so don't worry.)

Cool YouTube video. This kind of thing is helpful. I still wouldn't know how to design levels for things smaller than electrons/protons/neutrons. Although it is clear, as you said, that a level like that would take a long time to beat (even if I turned the growth rate way up).

And yeah, the end of that video... what a twist!

Of course the end is also true. lol

Well if you want creatures earlier look at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanobe

Smallest form of life

Also, I've seen for instance in Egypt, you eat houses, then groups of houses. So you could have groups of those manifolds and other things at the beginning once you get bigger.

(You've already had things like that in space, too. Galaxy, galaxy group, galaxy cluster, supercluster. Same idea.)

Aww...we have to have 3 before 4?

Also, I have another idea. How about a smooth zoom out feature. Not just an abrupt jump. It would look a lot nicer. I've actually seen something that has that. What was it again? I'll check later. I know it was just a player using the editor that comes with the game making a custom level and adding that effect.

When a zoom-out happens, the game is internally loading an entirely new level. This makes removing the zoom-outs technically challenging. Also, maybe more importantly, the level designs rely on fixed zoom-out levels. Level boundaries and creature emitters are tied to the current zoom level. I'm not sure how that would work with a constant zoom out effect. Most solutions that I can think of would require a major rewrite to the game engine and level creation would be extremely slow compared to the current system.

One positive effect that the current zoom-out system has is that it gives the player a better sense of getting bigger. If we somehow did a constant zoom out effect, the goo would always stay the same size (while the world around him got smaller).

I do like the way that Katamari does it - internally I think that they handle it the same way that I do - loading new levels after reaching a certain size. However, they hide it by doing a couple of "fake" zoom outs before doing the big zoom out (the one where the screen goes blurry) and loading the new level. I think that their levels must take an enormous amount of time to create - considering how many people work on those games and how few levels they have.

Also, something that I've always found weird. How come the mouth isn't the only part of an animal's body it can eat you with in the game? Is it supposed to be like the creature stomps on you?

I think stomping makes sense with the bigger entities like the Tyrannosaurus and Albertosaurus, but Bambiraptor shouldn't kill you if you touch its wing.

Since it dissapears though, that would imply it ate it with whatever body part the goo touched. Which can be pretty weird.

If you fix that, and make it so if you move slowly behind something it won't notice you, you could make missions where you sneak into heavily guarded areas to eat what's inside.

Maybe like a gold vault or Area 51.

The getaway would certainly be easy (eat all the guards)

How about we have a level during the credits like katamari? It can be one where we eat everything in your house (James), the things in your yard then the house itself?

Post by: James on April 05, 2011, 04:12:55 PM
I've always wanted to do a credit level. I was planning one for TP2 in which you could eat the credits as they come up. The credits screen is one of the last things that I do on a project, so what seems to happen is that I'm usually sick of the project and past deadline at that point - so I don't end up doing anything special. :(

Who knows, could happen in TP3.

Also, in TP3, you can make it so you can unlock the casual bonus levels after eating 1 million objects.

I'm pretty sure that the bonus level system (if there even is one) would be different from TP2

Another idea! Give a few copies to some play testing volunteers during development. I'm sure thirdparty would like testing strategies and making sure the level works. You could have more than him though.

secondly, i have 1 daily post finally!

Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Kren on May 23, 2011, 01:48:52 PM
The last story level of tasty planet 2 already kinda does that. I think that there should be more of a 'party level' kinda thing. like, you meet other goos from other universes or galaxies or whatever and you eat them or something. they did that in some bonus levels and it was pretty fun. also if you make more 'long' levels, make either checkpoints in them or allow mid-level saving.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on June 17, 2011, 03:02:02 PM
The last level does not do that at all! The things you eat at the beginning are way bigger than planck length.

The goo at the beginning is a bit more than...oh...10000000000000000000000000000 planck lengths. It rounds to 162 nanometres though. (161.605)

Also, the beyond part isn't really what raxo meant I'm guessing. I'm guessing raxo meant other than just turtles.

The checkpoint idea sounds really good though! Also, mid-level saving...only if it was a half hour level. Maybe 20 minute long levels.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on July 19, 2011, 03:47:56 AM
This topic seems to have stopped, but I have thought of another idea.

Now, how do you explain goo being small? In the future levels in TP2, even though technology is far more advanced, normal nanobots are relatively huge. It would be sort of impossible to have nanobots at an even smaller size. So here's a solution.

The goo from TP2 is happily munching turtles, when it notices that it has finally reached the bottom and it seems there is a black floor underneath. It finishes the turtles but when it touches the floor it is sucked in. It turns out it was a huge universe. (Still use the normal measurements though for levels.) It falls and lands on Earth. The goo will probably be very confused when it sees the scientists.

Yeah, we could do something like that. Reminds me of the end of Men in Black (although I'm sure that idea was in a lot of different sci-fi before that)

(I just realized I'm a Sr. Member now. Yay! You should customize the names of the ratings and add more.)

Oh, I haven't watched that movie in forever. Wasn't that creature's playing marbles using universes?

Of course, the only other way would be to have some werird goo society (Well, it has eyes and a mouth and can make the shape of body parts. This would explain that. Well, they could for instance ram themselves into spikes to stop them from being huge. I mean, it would hurt, but they wouldn't like the other option.) and have the leader become corrupt and eat everyone then eventually eat it's universe then find itself in another one.

Silly, I know, but an idea.

Oh, I haven't watched that movie in forever. Wasn't that creature's playing marbles using universes?

It's actually not quite as I remember it. Seems like it's only the milky way inside the marble, not the whole universe:

Ok, that creature looks a lot like the goo. I mean, I'm sure nanobots have to activate a process to eat things. Maybe it would actually be able to hold things. (Ok, this is lending support to the second silly idea. Not what I was going for...it works though.)

(Also, now you need a new thing that my first idea reminds you of.)

i have an idea too of the new tasty planet. But in this new series is very special, it starts only at the size as a small virus, but as it travels throught the time as it time machine works from the second tasty planet. And before it wents out to the orbit, it eat a statue called the statue of space, thus it travels throught the time and space at twenty more places. At the end of the game, it arrives at the creation of the universe : The Big Bang . And of course it ate the Big Bang and the whole universe was never created. And suddenly it dissepeared.

Where did it go?

Who knows, maybe it is still traveling throught the time and space and eating everything.

Maybe there is a new Big Bang......

You will know when it created!

And maybe there is a new Grey Goo there, waiting for something to eat.

It sounds like the second game with a different ending...just a lot longer.

(Also, space and time are one thing. The time machine was obviously changing the place the goo was too. Rome is a little far from Japan.)

No possibilities to it eat the big bang, it should go before it, and it eat what created the big bang.

Post by: lennonluiz0907 on August 14, 2011, 12:43:11 PM
New way:
It is 2057.
A scientist created what was created to eat virus/bacterium of a body, but too small anyway. about a... planck lenght? and it was in a LARGE injection only.
it was never used, by even the scientist, or by your helper!
a looooong year later:
TV: a really small and very undetectable virus is killing every cell of the body of about 20 people! after killing them, should kill all the people of the planet! like the "Goo Meanaces" that were in other extremely similar dimensions! they grow with everything it eats!!!
Scientist: there is some goos on my injection, and after tests, i am certain that it isn't like the "Goo Meanaces" that happened over forty years ago!
Helper: we only hope it. it can-
Scientist: you helper, this is impossible, it was tested always!
Helper: it can grow like the other goo meanaces, and eat every other-
Scientist: -dimension in the outer space. i know. but it is impossible. but we need to run, the time is-
Helper: we stopped testing when reached size of a virus, because of "possible risks" like what you said-
Scientist: you're pessimistic, yeah? you want to not go with us?
Helper: i want to go, but-
Scientist: now we go.
...meanwhile...
Unknown Medic: You, i am Dany, and will make you be good in some time.
Unknown victim of the virus attack: ...thanks...
Dany: let i see how is you... wow. you have a strong problem.
less than five minutes later, still at the hospital...
WTF: Please, let us enter, i have a CURE!
Dany: CURE? ENTER PLEASE!
Scientist: i am here, and have a injection with something that grows faster than the virus.
Victim: .........cure? injection?...........
Helper: it isn't safe using it-
Scientist: helper, if you talk again, you will be slapped!
Scientist: it already was tested enough, so it can go.
Dany: even if it die, it is less than the full world!
Helper: but it can be more than it, maybe like the full UNIVERSE-
SLAP!
Helper: ouch! RIGHT ON THE BUTT!
Scientist: we will put the injection and just wait the results.
Part 1 starts.
starts in 1 planck lenght, luckily there are enemy goos, that you eat it, and end with 10 planck lenghts.
Scientist: finally, the WINNER is here.
Helper: slightly fast!
Part 2 starts.
eats planck particles, 1 per 1.
ends eating large clusters of planck particles, about 10000 planck lenghts.
Scientist: still invisible, sorry.
Helper: still fast!!
Scientist: SHUT UP!
Part 3 starts.
large clusters-superclusters-hyperclusters-10k planck clusters-100k planck clusters...
until about 1 yoctometer.  ;D
Part 4 starts.
some more planck pareticles and it starts eating neutrinos and preons right after.
until about 2 zeptometers.
Part 5 starts.
eats more preons, discover the quarks, electrons, and eats both, until eat a proton.
until about 2 femtometers.
Scientist: Still invisi- Hey! it is here! everybody see!
Helper: still telling! soooooo fast-
Scientist: you will or you will not ever shut up???
Part 6 starts.
eats protons, neutrons, full nucleis, small parts of an atom until end eating it.
until about 1 picometer.
Part 7 starts.
eats gamma rays, until be big enough to eat x-ray rays, and eats last a hidrogen atom.
until about 30 picometers.
Scientist: it eated your first atom!
Helper: it-
Scientist: it is ending soon.
Helper: WHY YOU DON'T LET ME TALK! IT CAN BE THE DEATH OF THE UNIVERSE, AND-
Scientist picks total anesthetic.
sssssssss
Helper: you... you will... you...
Helper falls inconsient in the ground.
Scientist: you medic! please put it in a bed. it will sleep a few hours.
Dany: i am running!
Scientist: small goo... i am here... it is only me and you now!
Part 8 starts.
It eats different atoms, until the caesium atom. eats a carbon nanotube. eats parts of dna, and eats nanobes and a minimal virus.
Until about 30 nanometers.
Scientist reminds of something and calls Dany.
Dany: what?
Scientist: i remembered that, to eat the virus, it is needing to eat the same things that the virus eaten.
Dany: oh no. it is slightly empty of that things. :(
Scientst: there is a way! it will eat everything in sight, not a part.
Dany: SO IT WILL DIE!  :'(  >:(
Scientist: that is what we will seeeeee...
Part 9 starts.
eats more and bigger viruses, and starts eating bacteriums. eats red and white blood cells, and ends eating the virus of the epidemy.
Until 40 micrometers.
Helper: uh... eh... YAAAAWN... what... where am i?
Helper reminds of everything.
Helper: I NEED TO RUN!!!!!111111@@@@@@
Scientist: finnaly, i was tired of seeing that-
BLAM!
Helper enters the room.
Helper: let i see the microscope!
Helper: hey scientist! watch this! it is too fast to be picked back, and the hole in the victim is so small!
Scientist: i will see. i am hoping nothing happen.
Part 10 starts.
eats more bacteriums, until the biggest bacterium of the world.
Until about 600 micrometers.
Scientist: WTF? it is visible to the pure eyes!
Helper: i told you-
Scientist: SHUT UP! and-
Scientist: OH NO!!! HELPER IS CORRECT! THERE IS ONLY A DAY TO WE GET SAFE GROWING LIKE THE VIRUS AND THE GOO AND RUN OFF THE UNIVERSE!
Helper: i told everyone to don't test this!! you never let i talk completely my things!
Scientist: sorry for me not listening you. NOW RUN! TIME IS LIFE! WARN EVERY SCIENTIST IN THE WORLD! RUN!
Dany: I GO WITH US!
Victim wakes up.
Dany: you will die in few minutes. make maximum of your last minutes!
Victim: DANG!
Journal people: let us enter!
Dany: yeah, the door is already open.
Part 11 starts.
Eats small parts of organs, bones and muscles, until eat the heart and the brain.
Until 10 centimeters.
Victim dies.
Dany: NO! IT DIED!
The goo goes out by the nose.
RUN RUN RUN!
The goo run after them and will enter the "goo meanace inspired" spaceship.
Part 12 starts.
eats mice, running to the spaceship. the further it goes, larger the enemies are. eats rats, cats, dogs, foxes and wolves, until it reaches the spaceship.
Until it reaches the spaceship, about 1,5 meters.
Unluckily, it is launched off of it by your "mouth".
Part 13 starts.
eats humans, enter in houses to eat everything of it, eats trees, eats houses and buildings, run by states, until reach New York and eats the Empire State.
Until about 400 meters.
People alive work together to throw it in the ocean.
Part 14 starts.
It swims to different countries, to firstly go to the place of the biggest towers, until eat burj dubai. continues swimming to eat the Corcovado in Brazil, and eats a gigantic overwater bridge that is over 13 km long part per part, in the same place.
goes to the Andes, and eats tons of mountains, and is launched again to water.
Until about 20 km.
Part 15 starts.
it eats water, more water and lands on europe. it is about 300 km long, and starts eating countries, until final gulps to Italy!
Eats even more water and lands on South America. eats every country, and makes a massive final gulp on Brazil.
Until about 5 Mm(Megameters) or 5000 km.
Part 16 starts.
Eats Australia, Canada, United States, Greenland, All the Central America in a single gulp, and in a final massive gulp, eats all the Asia.
Until about 9 Mm or 9000 km.
Part 17 starts.
goes to space and eats everything that is left on the planet, and eat all the solar system.
Until about 170 Mm or 170000 km.
Part 18 starts.
starts eating even bigger planets, Proxima Centauri, parts of the Sun, until your core, Alpha Centauri B, Alpha Centauri A, and LOTS of stars one larger than another like the part 12.
Until about 3,4 Tm(Terameters), 22,7 AU(Astronomical Units) or 3.400.000.000 km.
The Scientist's spaceship finds the goo and eats nebulae with you.
Part 19 starts.
starts eating nebulae, even if it requires eating just small parts of each, until eat the Tarantula.
Until about 10 Em(Exameters), 350 Pc(Parsecs), 1 Kly(Kilo light-year) or 10.000.000.000.000.000 km.
Part 20 starts.
both start eating parts of the Milky Way, until in base of seconds you eat the Space Ship.
the Scientist makes all the spaceship and everything inside it enter in auto-destruction.
of course the goo is so resistant that instead of splatting, enlarges by the power of all auto-desteructions.
become big enough to eat galaxy clusters, superclusters, full billion lightyear-long supercluster complexes, and all the observable universe in a single gulp.
Until about 150 Ym(Yottameters), 15 Gly(Giga Light-years), 5 Gpc(Gigaparsecs) or 150.000.000.000.000.000.000.000 Km.
Part 21 starts.
eats parts of the universe, until eat your center in a final massive gulp.
eats "Turtles of time" once again, but suddenly the support ends. it ends with all the turtles. What to do?
Until about 400.000 Ym, 40 Tly, 13 Tpc or 4x1025 Km.
Part 22 starts.
eats sudden and random universes, until eat all the borders of the multiverse.
eats even more sudden and random universes, until eat a gigantic universe called Omniverse.
Until a random amount of size. about some billions of Ym.
Part 23 starts.
it appears a random and sudden black, and a unknown Enormous, almost infinite orange in the center. you eat black, more black, and MORE BLACK. on the next zoom, you become insanely small, with a infinite in your side. you run infinitely to get as big as a part of it to start eating it. much much later, you start eating it, but it re-appears after 2 seconds! the effect of the growing of the goo is still active. so you run on it, run and run until you be capable to eat it in 2 gulps!
Until it eats the infinite.
Last part starts.
it appears in a white unknown land, called "the source". you eat sources of everything, the lands, water, the space, the natural effects, gas, and the biggest one ever. THE TIME. so it started to shake, and started to travel in time, but not in space, until 1 hour before the big bang. you eat your source, called "the source of the grand bangs" and the stars will never die, and your universe will not have ever existed.
what will happen after?
???

First of all, it's a little hard to understand what you're saying. No offense. I get the basic idea though.

Goo eating people so goo eats first goo. Proceeds to then eat other people. Eats universe. Helper says I was right.

A few things. It's impossible to have atoms at that size, so it would need to come from somewhere else.

Right, we can detect other dimensions that quickly. We might not even have a small lunar outpost by then.

A little...violent for this game which is intended to be silly. Hitting people with hammers isn't silly. (Ignore the fact that if this was realistic it would be ripping everything to pieces and would be the most violent video game ever...)

Who's this Dany? I'm guessing he's the medic later on?

1: resuming idea,
a virus epidemy appeared, like the goo meanaces already happened, it eats everything and grows when eat, so eats things always bigger!
it starts in a injection that while it is injected, eats all other goos to have enough size to eat something.
eats since planck particles, until the brain of the people that was attacked by the virus.
it grows enough to eat the earth, all the solar system, all the milky way and the universe.
it eats "turtles of time" once again, but the turtles ends.
it starts eating random and unknown universes, and eats the multiverse.
eats more random and unknown universes, and eats some huge universe called omniverse.
starts eating black thingies close to a infinity symbol.
it travels to a land called "The Source", where it eats the source of everything, source of water, planets, space, gas, natural effects, etc. it eats the biggest of the sources. Time!
it travels to the Big Bang epoch, few hours before it happen. it noted that forgot one of the sources. Grand Bangs, like the stars explosions, and includes the Big Bang. it eats it almost 10 minutes before the Big Bang happen, making the stars never die, and the universe never exist!
2: it eats things trillion times smaller than one firstly!
3: done.  ;)
4: maybe saying it is a legend?
5: done. realistic like it is not like an comic, but something like a short for each with legends for people of other countries, that know how to write, but not to speak the language(like i) maybe.
it isn't a real life occur. just a short animation.
6: yep, you are correct.  ;)

Ok, I meant that nanobots are made of metal or some other thing which is made of atoms. That's what I meant. So how could something made of atoms be smaller than an atom?

Legend? Where did I say anything about that?

I'm wondering what line 4 and 5 are from. I checked over my post several times.

Also, by the violence, I wasn't talking about actually seeing a skull get crushed. I was saying that the act of hitting someone with a hammer or having someone die (and actually saying it and not just having them vanish into a puff of smoke like in the game's levels) isn't silly. You could probably play tasty planet in front of a baby without having to worry. Even look at the silly sounds humans make when you eat them. You can tell the games were meant to be a little humourous. The cutscenes from the first and second game were funny. Yours...aren't. I'm not saying I have anything against it personally, I'm just saying you should keep the game at it's age range.

Also, you realize the big bang was about as big of an explosion as a bag of sugar exploding, right? Also the fact that the universe was pretty much an infinitely small point. It would probably be an extremely small thing to eat.

Sorry for double post, but because I'm guessing no one but lennon is going to read that last one, here's my post directed towards other people.

James, about that mode I was talking about where you just eat and eat as long as you please, I was thinking... Maybe you could have a neat community thing. Maybe you could have a community goo section. It would show a goo at a very small size. Every time you report how many universes you've eaten, the goo would grow the tiniest bit for every universe eaten. Of course the goo is shared between everyone so everyone's universes go towards the one goo. Each time the goo gets to a certain size, have a special thing unlock for everyone. Like a level or something. Of course, since later things should be harder to unlock, you should keep growth rate the same. If the goal is one meter for example, and each universe eaten gives 1 millimeter, when you reach that goal, the next goal still has to be reached in 1 millimeter increments. (Of course you can go smaller...like planck lengths or something. A meter would be evil to reach though lol. Well, there will be a lot of goals to reach before a meter though. Oh a millimeter would get hard too after a while, think of parsecs. It's just that this has the goo at a smaller size. You are still getting goals at the same rate.) Of course, there would be a top contributers for universes eaten section for ThirdParty a really good player (lol) to stand at the top of.

A good idea. But I think maybe is a little bit to long. Maybe shlud be a little bit shorter. to me it seems to bit a little too far away. like the level in tasty planet back for seconds "all the way down".  But the different is that it is smaller starting and bigger ending.

@Nibbler I haven't played it, but didn't Noby Noby Boy do something like that? I seem to recall reading that the game didn't sell very well, so then they had to change how fast the unlockables were unlocked.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on August 23, 2011, 07:04:02 PM
That's where I got the idea from. I'm in the top 10 in the world, I'm good at it. (Well, you reallly can't say you're good at the game.) People don't like it because it doesn't have objectives. (sigh)

(The sad thing is, from the current bonus, I can get 2 billion a day if I'm extremely lucky. Girl is only 1000 times that size...If I was lucky I could almost get the entire length by myself in the same amount of time it took 100000. Well, also if the PS3 didn't freeze after being on for several days. Why does it do that? Still, once they make the ps4 I'm going to Keita's house and getting him to allow me to play noby noby boy and have it contribute, even if I'm the only person contributing lol.)

They put the bonuses in because they realized it would be hundreds of years before the second goal was reached. We could possibly reach our 5th goal in a week if you put it in Tasty Planet 3. Also, you could make it any way you like. 10x would get hard, (10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000, a million) 2x would just get hard after a longer time. Since I'm guessing it should take a half hour for a universe (gold anyways...), maybe have a reward every thousand eaten. That's 500 hours of work (or 250 if you're ThirdParty, maybe less...), so it would only take 100 people working for 5 hours to finish it. (well, the goals shouldn't be too easy, maybe every 10 thousand would make the workload less for you.)

Clearly I need to try that game... It came out before I had a PS3, otherwise I would have picked it up right away.

The one thing they needed for this game to make it better would be a controller with more buttons. Once you've played a while, the controls are easy, but having to have each button do 3 things makes it hard for people first playing the game. It has an unbelieveble camera system, it's extremely manueverable. Although I can move it quite well, it's pretty hard to move at the start. It took me 2 months to fully understand it. It's only 5 dollars.

Also, how's my idea for Tasty planet? It would get rid of impossible goals.

(realizes something about Noby) Wait! Slight correction, I can make 1.5 million a day. If I kept getting the current bonus I could have gotten more that the total length by now! Quite a bit more!

I like the idea of putting in more social/community features like this. Somehow tying together the different versions of the game (Windows/Mac/iPhone/iPad/Flash?) with a feature like this would be cool. Of course, the question of what is the best way to spend my time always comes up.

The new project that I'm working on now will actually have some neat social features - we'll see how that goes.

Can't wait to see what kind of goome...er game it is. If it's just multiplayer or friend system...well, I don't think I'd be able to get anyone to buy it, so that wouldn't really help. Unless it was over the internet connection. I could play it with others on the forums. Is this the PC game you were talking about making, or is it not for thr PC?

(I actually got someone to buy the lite version of tasty planet for his Isomething.  Unfortunately, the person had an accident and all of his data got erased, and he doesn't want to rebuy it.)

(Also, you never replied to my PM James.)

Not sure when we'll start working on it. It sort of depends on how Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds does on iPhone/iPad.

There are some other games out there that are somewhat similar to Tasty Planet:
-Feeding Frenzy (you only eat fish/aquatic creatures in this)
-Katamari Damacy
-Wonderful End of the World
-Osmos (More strategic than Tasty Planet - you eat weird blobs and use your own mass to move around)
-Shark Shark! (This one is really old, but it's the original game in this genre, as far as I know)

Another idea of another new Tasty Planet.
The grey goo in TP2 had eaten the the last Turtle of Time, and found itself on the timeline which seperates time from past and future. After the grey goo ate the timline, the time is no longer seperated as past and future and after eating the timeline, the grey goo suddenly explode as the one in TP1. Creating the universe but NOT the timeline. As the history repeats, the Earth is filled fill with dinosaurs and thing and human from the past at the same time.

Professer:(after explaining everything) and that's why the Earth is in a mess now. We MUST find a way to rebuild the timeline, or else, as the history repeats at the same place and time, it will cause the whole Earth to be deserted. if you don't know what I meant, let me give you an example. Everyone knows that the asteroid had cause the dinosaurs to be extint, if you don't rebuild the timeline qiuckly, the asteroid might be here any time! We must search a way to rebuild the timeline, and FAST!

Helper: But our knowledge about the timeline is almost NOTHING!

Professer: You are quite wrong about it, I know EVERYTHING about the timeline, including the particles that made it and when it was made and everything else.

Helper: OK, but how are we going to fix the timeline?

Professer: the only way to fix the timeline is to make another grey goo. It has the particles that can only be used to fix the timeline.

Helper: But this is a very dangerous experiment! and how on the world are you going to make it explode at the right time to make the timeline?

Professer: What we need is a microchip to control the goo, and I've already prepair everything for this dangerous experiment and I've tested the microchip, now just insert the microchip and that's done! Now start the experiment! Give it some other goos to eat.

You will grow from just 1 plank length to a big size, 5 centimeters in about the 3rd hour of the experiment.

Professer: Now let it go to the wild for something else to eat.

You are release into the wild, where is eat even more things and grow into about, 10 meters, where it fly out of the Earth and into the orbit.

Professer: Now start operate the machine, it can protect us from being eaten. If it really wants to eat us, I can control it from eating us.

You cannot eat the Earth, so just munch on planets, stars, black holes, nebulaes and everyrthing else until you at last reach the turtle of time again.(The Earth will be eaten by the time you eat the milky way.

After you eat the tutle of time, You will find yourself, like, in a maze of universe.after the muching on maze, you find yourself in some place, where is full of water and bacteriums. after you eat those bacteriums, you will find that this universe you are in is a much more bigger universe than the first.

Later you wll repeat the way agin, bacteriums, water, ants, rats, cats, dogs...... but there are much much more bigger than the first universe. After the turtle of time. Then you will find yourself in a black place, after eating them, you will find that there are the other pieces of the universe. you must munch on them until you will find a tower, but it is made up of universe. After eating the whole tower, you will find a remote control, eat it, then you will end the level, the remote conrol is the control of the universe, made by someone a long time ago.

Then the grey goo will start to giving out blinding light, and it disappeared, leaving a piece of note. It says,"I will return in TP4", and it start to burn and it also went.

What a VERY complicated thing to understand, I must say. But how could the Grey Goo eat itself? Nothing in the whole Universe could destry itself by eating it(or anything)self. And shouldn't be an ending Universe which destroy everything?(What I trying to say is that the grey goo ate eveything but a super black hole. So the black hole suck up everything that comes near it. As it suck more things in that the goo left behind, teh black hole grow bigger than the goo and it suck the goo right in. But not long, the grey goo eat evreything that is in the black hole and it soon swallow it up, but as everthing is not existed, the grey goo dissapperaed.

Also, there are games on handhelds too. Katamari Amore is coming soon to ios(whatever that is) and the Vita is getting Touch my Katamari. If the Vita has a touchscreen that title sort of makes sense. There is another game on ios already. I think it's I love katamari.

Another idea, when the Grey Goo is created. the Creater also created a teleportation Devise. Which is WAY bigger then a Time Machine. It is about the size of the lab. The Young Scientist again foolishly open the aparatus and feed the goo. where it grows so big that is ate the Teleportation Device and the devise teleport it to the Telepotation System Connection Bridge. The Grey Goo ate everything in the bridge, causing a massive collasp and destruction in the Teleportaion System Connection Bridge. So the Grey Goo was immediately split out from the Tunnel. It reach the End Of The World, the Grey Goo is in a farm. At the End Of the World, it grow up and ate the Supermassive Back Hole that is going to swallow the whole Universe. The moment it eat the Black Hole, the teleportation system starts and bring the Grey Goo to many other places. In the End, it swllow itself and burst into a world with Grey colours.

I forgotten to say something, there is a mirror world inside one of the error world of the Teleportation Device. The mirror world is a world that is same as Tasty Planet Back For Seconds' level "All The Way Down". The only difference is that the Turtle Of Time is upside down and the Grey Goo starts as very big to small. But the measurements are still starting from NM, or Nanometers. And you cannot eat things that are smaller than you.Youcan only end the world by eating some Bacteriums. The Grey Goo even grows from very big to very small.

Another World is where you will meet the Last Tutle Of Time King. You will also find the 2 other goos form the previous Tasty Planet, locked in the Creation Of Universe boxes by the Last Turtle Of Time King. In the last level, you must battle with the last Turtle Of Time King by eating the Creation Of Unverse boxes that it will try to lock you up. When you 've eaten about 100000000 Creation Of Universe,(plus the two goos) you can eat the Turle Of Time King and avoiding the Creation Of Universe by eating them up.

Post by: Nibbler on January 11, 2012, 04:45:06 PM
Ok, so if I'm getting this right, the goo eats a teleporter, teleporting it to a main teleportation area. It eats it, and all of the teleportation signals send it to the edge of the earth, which is flat. It eats through space until it can eat a black hole. It starts going everywhere and eats everything, and then turns into a replica of the world made of goo. (Also, a replica of the black hole of course...) There's a zooming in section where you eat those space amoebas like in the first game and the more of those you eat, the more of the turtles you eat. Then you eat the goos from the other games, (even though one is already dead) and then spend a several days worth of play time eating boxes (well, I have eaten about a tenth of the amount of objects in my entire TP2 time as you have boxes to eat in that level) until you can eat a turtle with a crown.

I know that this level will take a lot of time, so that's why you can eat a lot of things in this level. The things that does not make this level great is that you can only eat 1 Tutle Of Time King. Forgotten something. The Creation Of Universe look very big at the start, but after eating a lot of it. The size of The Creation Of Universe become like the Cherry Blossom's size in the level "Cherry Blossom".

You have to realize that I've played Cherry Blossoms hundreds of times and I'm still not even close to your goal.

I eat about 2k every time I finish the level.

I know, your number in gallery end up like that because of the fight with ThirdParty. How much thing you have eaten in your gallery? Mine is about... wait. Around 6,000,000 things eaten. Much of them incude the Houses of every Era exept Eygptain Time. The biggest number of houses is the houses of Japan.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on January 14, 2012, 07:10:29 AM
6 million. You only eat a few hundred houses even in the biggest level. You are officially the first person to have TastyPlanetitus. That is insane. You've played the levels thousands, maybe 10 thousands of times. You are more addicted than ThirdParty. (gasp)

That is because I tried to get gold on both Monsterzillas Version. It took me a very long time before I got gold for both version. I tried to beat ThirdParty on Gooturistic, so the number of Grey Goo ended up at 2450.

Maybe there could be a competitive local multiplayer mode where it is split screen and you try to finish first, and could have up to four players. There would also be co-op.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on January 25, 2012, 12:57:57 AM
Co-op is in back for seconds. Also, I'm guessing that they couldn't have 4 on one computer. There are only 3 ways to control goo. Mouse, WASD, and arrow keys. Besides, having more than 2 on 1 computer screen could make it hard for some people (not me, but others) to see. I hope for TP3 that Joystick opens up as a control function though.  Maybe even a feature in a TP2 update. That way you can have 2 ways to control goo smoothly.

Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

About the level editor...

I think that we could have the animations, entities, and such already pre-made based on the actual in-game animations, and we just place the objects, edit soe size settings, and you are good to go!

Of course, I don't know if you can just do that with the actual level editor you use. I would like to create a level where you just eat different sized versions of the same things.

Also, roads are peiced together as if they were objects. Why not make them edible?
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on February 04, 2012, 03:54:48 PM
What about setting object emitters?
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on February 06, 2012, 11:56:40 PM
The editor that I use let's you do everything that you said, and lets you do object emitters. I'm not sure if I'm going to release that or not... it's pretty hard to use.

Roads could be edible... grass could be edible... it's just that generally you want to have a foreground of active objects and a background of inactive objects. The player needs to know what objects they can interact with. I agree that roads could be edible without confusing the player... but there are more interesting things to eat at that size, so I would be more inclined to leave the roads as background objects.  :)

The Starcraft 2 editor looks fairly complicated, and even though it's code, look how much Minecraft is modded. People will definitely be able to use it. (Not me though. I just like playing.)
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Hii Zhe Xi on February 09, 2012, 04:43:04 AM
I really really really wish for a level editer for Tasty Planet 3. I want to make my own level. I will like to eat roads and grass. But as James said, there is much more things to eat at the size.

Yeah, I'm terrible with using editors. The only editor I've used for long periods of time is the Age of Empires 3 one. I just spawn George Crushingtons and make them attack each other lol. Ok, I've made other things attack each other too, and I know how to use water, ships, buildings, and wooden walls, but the events and triggers just confuse me. Also stone walls and trade routes are confusing.

Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Hii Zhe Xi on March 05, 2012, 02:35:32 AM
It's like you can test yourself with eating something like you, which make the level fun.(although sometimes it is frustrating, like the level "Googyptain"!)
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

James, I'm asking you one serious matter. Can you allow me to create a 3D Tasty Planet(New Version)? I'm been reading all about creating 3D Games programming and I've tried a few bits.(Of course, I didn't create any games yet.) So I'm taking this challenge of doing it, I will be busy for quite a while if you allow.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3

I'm sorry, but I think Katamari would make a 3D Tasty Planet useless. You know, series with lots of games that is successful and one of them was released this year... Also, James is a professional, so it is probably best to leave it to him.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on September 07, 2012, 12:02:41 PM
Sorry, I can't give you permission to do that.

If you're serious about learning to make games, I would recommend starting with something a bit simpler anyways. Start with a game like pong... then try slightly larger stuff like tetris, asteroids, etc. You'll learn a lot in the process.

How about making many more bonus levels in TP3?For example you have the main story. You start from strings and plank particles, eat quarks, neutrons and then atoms, viruses and bacteriums. After eating the city you go around the world. Now you can't eat everything that exist in a city, but can you make those objects in bonus levels? For exemple one where you eat an office building from interior starting with pencils and pens then papers, computers, people and desks,or an restaurant where you start with grapes, olives, pizzas and then later tables, people, chefs, ovens etc,or levels in ocean where you eat things you don't find in a city(sharks, dolphins, fishes, whales, corals etc),and if it's the Atlantic ocean, maybe eat even the wreck of Titanic,or in the jungle where you eat exotic plants and animals,or even levels on moon where you eat rocks and space modules. One of the things that I liked in TP1 was the orbit levels where you ate satellites, astronauts, space shuttles and the International Space Station,so maybe put them back? And one more thing, you can't eat anything in the Solar System, for exemple in TP2 you didn't put Pluto because it was too small.Again, how about putting Pluto,Ceres,Eris, planets's satellites etc in bonus levels?
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Jefferson on October 29, 2012, 12:47:13 PM
I was wondering why you only put 6 periods of time.I mean there are lots of interesting periods in history, why did you only put 6?For example you could've put, besides those that are in the game,Ancient Greece where you could eat Greek houses and people, ships and the Parthenon, maybe Babylonia where you eat houses, trees, people The Hanging Gardens of Babylon and Tower of Babel. The Middle Ages where you eat knights, kings, peoples, castles, churches(if you put Monsterzilla, why not maybe even dragons? :) ),Ancient China, maybe the American Civil War and World War 2 and 1,or the prehistoric times.Maybe bonus levels where you eat all the Wonders of the Ancient World. Also I want to tell you that you should put more new objects in bonus levels in TP3(When I saw the Casual Bonus I tought there will be many more new objects, not just 3)If you are not doing Time Travel in any future Tasty Planet game,I think you wasted a very interesting subject.(Note:I don't want to be offensive or anything,I like TP2 like anyone else here,I'm just telling you that the Time Travel subject is very interesting and could be used in future TP-s)

We're actively working on two projects right now: Tasty Planet 2 for iOS, and the new game for Mac/Windows/iOS. I'm trying to do it simultaneously for all the different platforms, but it might end up being a staggered release.

Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Jefferson on December 27, 2012, 11:00:03 AM
One thing I didn't like in TP2 was that the last level in each period of time was composed of different levels already played before with a little bit more added to the end.It was boring to know that you had to play those levels.I think that in TP3 the last level of each zone(if there will be zones)should be new levels never played before. For exemple there was "Save the Dinosaurs" that was composed from "Cretaceous Critters","Dino Time" and "Bigger than Dinos" + the last segment with mountains.I think it will be better if the other levels were unique, like the "Beware of Deinosuchus".It's one of my favorite levels and also none of it appears in  "Save the Dinosaurs".For exemple,if the last level of a zone is a city where you start in a house and eat the city,I think the other levels should be for exemple in a pizzeria, office building,in a park etc.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on January 22, 2013, 06:35:56 PM
I might change the structure and order in which the levels are played. However, I like having massive levels that go all the way from tiny to huge.
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: Nibbler on January 24, 2013, 01:19:16 AM
Oh, I do too. They are my favourite levels. The other levels work as practice for the parts of the large one. Of course, I wouldn't care if you got rid of the small part levels, as long as there are fun levels in their place. I don't care how long it takes, but I know a shorter development time means you can gain revenue sooner, and people need money to live. Although, I'm hoping that is why Clumsy Cat was released, since it is smaller than your other games. Of course, it is free, and I don't know how many people are going to buy the other characters. Which are apparently cheap anyways. Where is Dingo Games getting their money from anyways?
Title: Re: Tasty Planet 3
Post by: James on February 01, 2013, 12:16:17 AM
We have revenue from all our past games - various distributors, direct sales, and iOS. Lots of little sources that add up. Obviously revenue is much higher when we release a new game.  :)
