Off Topic / Closing Forums Soon
« on: May 03, 2014, 02:41:25 AM »
We've had a lot of problems with spam on the forum... we get thousands of fake accounts and posts every day, despite using the most annoying registration options. Posts are never made public until we approve them, but it has become too much work to administer. In addition we get the all-too-frequent forum crashes which require my attention to figure out (yeah, that's why sometimes they have been offline for weeks or longer... I don't want to deal with server admin stuff... I suck at it and don't like doing it :( )

Sooo... we're going to be closing down the forums. We've disabled registration already. We're going to leave the forums online for a while. I might try to leave them accessible permanently as a reference, as there are certainly some useful posts in here.

I'm not sure exactly what we're replacing the forums with, if anything. Right now, I'm thinking about just using Facebook and Twitter for similar purpose... I don't know if that is sufficient...

In any case, thanks to everyone who contributed to the forums!

Off Topic / Tasty Planet 3 Level Idea Contest
« on: February 23, 2011, 02:23:06 AM »
We're having a little contest to promote our Facebook page. Basically we'd like to hear your ideas on what we should put into Tasty Planet 3. Here are the complete rules:

Quote
We're holding a contest at Dingo Games! The prize will be the "Dingo Games Super Pack". This will consist of every downloadable game that we have ever made (Jack of All Trades, Laser Dolphin, Tasty Planet, The Three Musketeers: The Game, and Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds).

Here's how you enter: Make a post on the Dingo Games Facebook wall, describing your ideal Tasty Planet 3 level. We've got a lot of great ideas for the next Tasty Planet, but we'd love to hear your ideas too. What kind of crazy objects should the goo get to eat? Maybe the goo starts even smaller than before (eating subatomic particles), or maybe he grows even bigger (but I'm not sure how that would be possible!). Should the goo be eating famous landmarks, cities, or countries? Let us know what you think the goo should eat!

Just post your level idea on our Facebook wall, and you'll be entered to win the Dingo Games Super Pack. The last day to make your post will be Monday, February 28, 2011. We'll choose the winner soon after.

Standard Legal Notice: By submitting a level idea, you are giving Dingo Games permission to use it in any of our future games with no further compensation expected (aside from the satisfaction of seeing the level in action!).

Post your level ideas on the Dingo Games Facebook wall here:

Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds / Version 1.0.5.0 Released
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:14:46 AM »
New version released! Not much different in this one - basically it's just a fix in the bonus level "Fast Cats".

The new version is 1.0.5.0. You can see what version of the game you have by looking at the bottom of the options screen.

As mentioned previously, if you ordered in the last month you should be able to reuse your original download link. If you ordered longer ago and want the update email me and I'll send it to you.

Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds / Version 1.0.4.0 Released
« on: October 07, 2010, 01:20:57 AM »
I spent a lot of time investigating some mouse input issues that I have heard about. I think that I tracked the problem down to two separate issues.

On Windows, when running the game in windowed mode, there was the possibility that moving your mouse really fast would result in your movement not being processed (due to the cursor leaving the window). This was more likely to occur if your mouse speed in Windows was faster than normal.

On Mac and Windows, if the game started to get choppy (low framerate), there was a possibility that the mouse would not be processed properly. There are a few levels in particular where this would make itself felt (generally levels with lots of little objects cause the game to run a bit choppy). I believe this is at least partially responsible for people having issues with Big Kitties and Rice Mice. If you have new/fast computer you probably wouldn't have noticed this.

I fixed these problems and the new version 1.0.4.0 is now available. You can see what version of the game you have by looking at the bottom of the options screen.

As before, if you ordered in the last month you should be able to reuse your original download link. If you ordered longer ago and want the update email me and I'll send it to you.

Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds / Version 1.0.3.0 Released
« on: October 02, 2010, 10:30:18 PM »
Based on more feedback of some of the casual levels being too difficult, I changed a few more things.

These levels are now easier on casual mode (in timed mode they are the same as before, because I want to keep timed mode challenging):
-Roman Rats
-Are You Not Entertained?
-Big Kitties
-Rice Mice

So now hopefully everyone should be able to beat all the casual levels. I'm trying to make sure that the game has a wide range of difficulty to satisfy everyone. If you're really into a challenge, be sure to check out the high scores and try to beat some those!

The new version is 1.0.3.0. You can see what version of the game you have by looking at the bottom of the options screen.

If you ordered in the last month you should be able to reuse your original download link. If you ordered longer ago and want the update email me and I'll send it to you.

This new version is 1.0.2.0. You can see what version of the game you have by looking at the bottom of the options screen.

If you ordered in the last month you should be able to reuse your original download link. If you ordered longer ago and want the update email me and I'll send it to you.

Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds / Treeforts is IMPOSSIBLE
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:37:49 AM »
I'm moving a few posts from my blog to here because they are cumbersome to answer there.

Iramatak asked, "Treeforts is IMPOSSIBLE in Timed mode. No matter how fast I move or what strategy I try, I always need ~30 seconds more."

Hmmm, maybe it is a bit too hard, but 30 seconds seems like a lot. What strategy are you using?

The best strategy that I have found is to lurer the tank to the bottom grove, then to the bottom left grove, then the top left, and then the top grove - just get him to destroy one tree in each grove and don't bother trying to eat the hoverboards until after you have made an entry on all four groves. Then go around, collect all the hoverboards, the you will be big enough to eat the bottom right grove - eat that (ignore hoverboards now because they are insignificant, then eat the bottom grove, then start on the bottom left and you will win.

Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds / Story in bonus mode?
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:21:04 AM »
I'm moving a few posts from my blog to here because they are cumbersome to answer there.

Strawberry asked, "I don’t have the full game so can you answer me these: the bonus levels that are new to the player are based on the main adventure? Also, in multiplayer mode, is it possible for one goo to be about 3 metres and the other 1cm?"

The bonus levels don't have any story component to them. There are almost 50 bonus levels, some are brand new, some are more challenging versions of the levels from the main game.

In two player mode you can be quite a bit bigger than the other goo but not 300x as in your example. When the level "zooms out" to the next portion of the level, if one goo is way smaller his size will get increased. It would be unplayable otherwise, because there would be nothing left for the smaller goo to eat (and he would be so small that you wouldn't be able to see him). There is also a handicap so that the bigger player grows more slowly and the smaller player grows more quickly - this keeps the goo sizes closer together and encourages cooperation (hogging all the food isn't a good strategy if you want a good time).
